A Tribute to Martin Hall

Martin Hall did his last School of Golf show on the golf channel and I’ll miss him and all his goofy funny gadgets and teaching aids made from the local hardware store. He’d use duct tape , boxes, gear ties, pool noodles, exercise bands and any ole thing he could find. We’d get a good laugh out of how he’d strap his self in with some contraption but, it made sense and would give you feed back for the swing. After 15 years and 450 shows with one million viewers at 70 He’s earned a break.

In 1977 Martin played on the DP world tour then went to teaching and has taught pros like Morgan Pressel, Karrie Webb, and Lexi Thompson. He didn’t want to do to many top pros because of the travel.

His wife Lisa was rookie of the year in1977and played on two European Solhiem cup teams. She has appeared on School of Golf a few times.

Some of my favorite tips from him are “ the over the topper chopper stopper” a show on how to stop that dreaded slice. And “ wipe the beer off the table” this refers to closing the club face by turning your right hand down as if wiping the beer off the table. Gotta mention “ Right and RRRRRRUBISH” with his great roll the rrrrrrrrs. Hilarious!

Martin hasn’t totally retired and will still be teaching at The Club IBIS in Florida.

There’s a great article about him at https:/ www.palmbeachpost.com

I’ll miss Martin and the great golfer Blair O’Neal who is a long drive champ and played the role of Martins student with a smile and grace. On the last show Martin said “ Blair I have often wondered if you don’t need a bottle of aspirin after all the swing thoughts I put in your head” Blair gave him a tearful goodbye and talked about what a great Guy he is.

Thanks Martin for helping me work on the puzzle that is my swing! I’m sure I always refer back to your shows.
