Good Ole WC Fields Playing Golf ? Is It A Hitum?
Let’s take a good look at WC Fields swing. The first thing I see is he dips down and loses his spine angle as he goes to impact. Spine angle is absolutely crucial to a good swing. You must keep proper spine angle till after impact. Now don’t do the opposite of that and listen to your buddies saying keep your head down. Once you get past parallel your head must come up. If if doesn’t your body won’t follow thru and make a full turn.
WC gets a pretty good turn back but really doesn’t complete the swing on follow thru and does not get his weight forward on the front foot. A must for all golfers.
Next he doesn’t ever get a good wrist set its kinda half hearted. You really need a good 90 degree set and hold it as long as you can for good lag. The club head has to lag behind like cracking a whip to get some speed and that equals distance.
Now when he throws his club in the pond his motion is much better ! He is taking s step like an out fielder throwing to home plate. This gets his weight back real good and loads you up. He then gets a good transfer to the front foot and an excellent turn thru. So much force that he has to step thru again like baseball player. Look at a pitchers motion. The golf swing is like pitching except your hands go low.Gary Player was a big step thru Guy and he’s a hall of famer! I think we should all practice our swing by throwing clubs in a pond. It’s also an excellent golf stress relief. Let’s all get out there and fill up our favorite golf pond. That’ll be great vengeance for that ball eating pond!WC gets a pretty good turn back but really doesn’t complete the swing on follow thru and does not get his weight forward on the front foot. I started golf in my 30s and 30 years later I still suck. I had an all arms swing with a big slice and never could figure it out till mercifully my Girl asked one year “What would you like for your birthday?” Golf lessons says I! So badly needed. I was a big time out to in caster. ( Must have come from my Dad a huge fly fisher man ) what a battle to fix that. My instructor told me visualize a clock on the wall behind you and at half backswing you’re going counter clockwise. Do the opposite IDIOT! Like George Constanta when he got his job with the Yankees. It worked after hours and hours of practice. I heard a top instructor say he tells his students when they start we’ll be working on the same basics you whole career.
WC Fields playing golf is it a Hitum? It’s still a Hitum and hope thing. You can see the pros do that too. Top pros down to lowly me always say their game needs work. Get out and HITUM
WCFields said Attitude is more important than past than education than money than circumstances than what people do or say it’s more important than appearance giftedness or skill. All us golfers need to remember this and put me at the top of that list. You play better happy.
